home programs testimonials

At WCDC, we believe that children and families benefit from the support a high quality early childhood care and education program provides. Children are entitled to a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment supported by a well-trained and professional staff that provides them with a program appropriate for their age and stage of developmental needs. We recognize the need to provide a curriculum that fosters children's physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth. We respect the uniqueness of each child as God given, and plan a program that is responsive to individual needs. We feel an obligation to build strong relationships and consistent communication with families by encouraging their support and valuing their participation.

Infant Program
(ages 6 weeks - 1 year)

We offer a program that encourages and supports infant development and learning by providing an environment where infants can freely engage in play, active explorations and movement while learning through their own experiences. Our staff are specially trained in child development to provide reliable routines and attentive responses to individual rhythms and needs. Each infant's schedule is individualized and maintained by caregivers following the cues of each child and through ongoing communication with the family.

Toddler Program
(ages 1 - 2½ years)

In the toddler room, you will observe caregivers offering support for active learning as the children begin to see themselves as separate beings. Our teachers provide many opportunities for exploration, language experiences and discovery play. Positively worded direction and guidance from consistent adults enable toddlers to begin to practice controlling their own impulses and developing self-regulatory behaviors.

Preschool Program
(ages 2½-5 years)

The preschool children learn through a play-based curriculum in a secure, child-oriented environment with numerous opportunities for active learning and planned learning experiences. Our daily routine provides a balance of child-initiated and teacher-directed activities. We use our downtown neighborhood as our classroom and often walk to fieldtrips. The classroom atmosphere encourages independence and constructive problem-solving and assists children in building feelings of self-worth and confidence in their abilities. The program is facilitated by teachers with credentials in early childhood education and child development.

School Age Program
(Kindergarten - 12 years)

WCDC offers After School programs following school calendars, and full-day childcare for school age children during vacation periods and on scheduled days off. Our daily routine includes free-choice, play-based activities, large and small group times, and active play both outdoors and in our gym. Our Summer Day Camp program is enriched with frequent field trips, arts and crafts, and cooking activities. Developing caring friendships, nurturing negotiation skills and building a sense of community are emphasized within the group.

At WCDC, we seek to provide a positive, nurturing, empowering atmosphere for all children and their families. Westminster Child Development Center does not discriminate because of race, color, sex, age, disability or national origin.
