| Westminster Child Development Center has a rich tradition and reputation for providing quality child care. The Center began as a Downtown Child Care Center in 1969 and was run by a consortium of downtown churches. Eventually the project became the sole responsibility of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where it has always been housed. Originally begun to serve the child care needs of parents who work or attend school downtown, the program has retained its commitment to this clientele.
A sliding fee scale enables families at all income levels to participate equally in a high quality program for their children. Youngsters enrolled at Westminster have the opportunity to participate in an environment in which diversity is a naturally occurring, positive experience. Children play and learn together in a setting that fosters respect and understanding for one another. In the fall of 1995 Westminster Child Development Center began providing care for Infants and Toddlers. This program was made possible through seed monies provided by the Frey Foundation and by an additional commitment to subsidizing this program by the Session of the church. This component allows the Center to offer families comprehensive child care services in an uninterrupted continuum from infancy through school age. |
